I am very tempted to get a P4 1.6A GHz since it overclocks so well, I have been wanting to get the MSI 645 Ultra333 board, since it is performs so well at $73 at newegg. Does anyone have the MSI board, and how well does it overclock? And what other SiS645 boards overclock well?

Tempted myself (looks like Asus P4S333 is looking good)
But I may get Soltek's Via P4X266A offering so that I am guaranteed BIOS o/c and FSB 133 and higher.

The MSI is limited to a maximum of 1.6V Vcore with the Northwood CPU's like the 1.6A and lacks any Vmem adjustment. The good news is that seems to be enough for at least 133MHz as I have read some reaching that at default 1.5V anyway. It may limit future o'erclocks though. No word if it the max available could be increased with future BIOS updates. I was kinda keen on the MSI since it is so cheap but from reading their forum it appears to have a defective temp. sensor which may or may not have been fixed in later hardware revisions.

Asus seems to have superior support and probably quality but at significantly higher cost for the same chipset. Of course there are those USB mouse issues. Also from their FAQ, the Asus board will error on post if a CPU fan is not installed yet it will not spin down a CPU fan on standby. Not conducive to a quiet system.

Looking at the costlier i845D's there is the limitation of using only 4 of the 6 memory banks (3 slots).

Then few of the P4 DDR boards have USB 2.0 (even then it seems a cludgy add-on) or ATA-133, yet most stick you with riser slots and on-board audio.

The more I research the more disillusioned I become and wonder if I should wait.

I should add that there were rumors of a secret MSI recall which would not bother me so much if I knew the currently available boards had functional temp. sensors.

I share the same sentiment. :(

I'm leaning towards puchasing the MSI because of it's current low cost and I hope that better boards will be introduced in the coming weeks.
