I'm getting ready to upgrade again and have developed an interest in video editing and capture. I'd like to record some tv shows and burn them to cdr, but more importantly I have alot of old laserdiscs that may never make it to dvd and would like to capture these so I can play them back on my dvd player.
I just bought an ATI TV Wonder and am still trying to figure it out. My current setup consists of a P2-450, 192Mb, 9G WD HD, Riva TNT AGP, Ensoniq PCI, Abit BH6, 17" Mitsu monitor.
I have a 30g 75gxp, SB Live Value, ATA 100 controller, Plextor 12x burner, Epson USB scanner and Antec case laying around waiting for a new cpu, mb, video card, .
I'm sure my kid will fight for the tv wonder to stay in his computer so I'll be looking for another tv tuner/capture card.
Anyway, just wondering what you guys used and if one setup was better than another. I have all kinds of ideas floating around in my head -- Dual CPU? Pentium 3 or 4? How much memory? Should I stay with ATI or go with Happuage? I'll need a dvd drive too. I guess Toshiba or Pioneer here.
I tried an AMD setup a few months ago and had all kinds of problems with the via chipset. I was using an MSI pro2a and Thunderbird 1.1gz. I guess I wouldn't completely rule out another amd setup, but I'm a little gun shy at this point.
Thanks for any suggestions!!
