My wife just got an HP HDX 16" 1080i notebook and is having problems getting appropriate resolution and font sizes. She has bumped up the font size in the OS to 140 Percent, but that doesn't apply in the applications, so the fonts are not very readable there.

Anyone BTDT and have reasonable settings to make the computer more usable? reduce resolution to 1400x900?

TIA

What is the default res of the screen? I am assuming that by 1080i you mean 1080p since LCD screens are not interlaced. If that is the case then it is 1920*1080 so you would want to drop it to a different 16:9 resolution which 1400*900 is not.

Set the resolution to whatever the N.R. for the LCD is - then adjust your font size from there.

1920x1080 will look tiny on a 16inch screen. You can either leave it at its native resolution and bump up the text size (not perfect in every program), or drop the resolution and suffer a little loss in image quality. (1280x720 has the same aspect ratio)

1920x1080 on a 16inch screen = pixels .2 mm or smaller

you'll still have good image quality @ 960 x 540 - "half resolution".

i run a 1600 x 1200 monitor @ 800 x 600, it's crystal clear. the native pixels are .27 mm,
so at half-resolution the pixels are .54 mm.
