We have about 9 Dell PowerEdge 2650s that were ordered with only 512MB of RAM and we need to upgrade them. I want to get some non-Dell branded RAM for them to save money. What brands are reliable and competitively priced. To me, RAM is RAM is RAM as long as it's from a dependable manufacturer and has decent contacts. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
 
I priced out Crucial RAM and the difference between it and Dell branded memory is only $50 more per 512 DIMM. I think we may just eat the difference for the heck of it since we know we won't have compatibility problems.
 
Are those 2650s going to be sealed off in a server room somewhere? We just got in about 4 of them and while undergoing some reconstruction our racks are sort of loose in the office and the 2650 is by far louder than any of the others. All of those tiny fans in there wail! They have to violate OSHA workplace standards...

I can't imagine how loud a fully loaded rack of those would be. 🙂

As for the RAM I'd go with Crucial but if the cost difference isn't that much (it definitely is a big diff sometimes) you might just go with the Dell branded RAM.
