Best Server Anti-virus

High guys, we're deploying a new DC for a client with limited hardware resources. Traditionally we've used Panda products, but they are extremely bloated (they even slow down our dual xeon with 4 gigs of RAM) I've been looking around for a more lightweight alternative that only does virus scanning. Synmantec wouldn't sell me their server protection without purchasing at least 10 licenses, and when I call Panda I get their voicemail which promises to call me back within 3 business days. So I'm hoping that you guys can recommend me some decent Anti-Virus software that will run on Server 2k3 that is fairly lightweight. Thanks.

Thanks for the response! I talked to McAfee and they said that I needed a license from them for every computer on our network, even though I explained to them that I already have licenses from them for the clients and I just need one for the server 🙁

/edit apparently that guy was wrong. I called back and had them transfer me to one of their resellers who specialize in their enterprise products and was quoted $59.90 for 2 licenses (minimum purchase amount) and was assured that it would do what I need. Thanks again for the response 🙂

that doesnt make sense at all.
We use McAfee Total Protection here at work (70+ workstations, 5+ servers)
you install the same client on the server as you do the workstations its just another license

I'm not sure how large your client is, but you may want to consider a universal managed anti-virus solution from Symantec or McAfee. Limiting yourself to a single provider will make maintenance easier, and the administrative benefits of using a Symantec or McAfee enterprise client are enormous. You can deploy hourly updates of virus definitions to all your clients in seconds.

Thanks for the post, I've used the Symantect corp in a larger deployment and it definitely makes life easier, but this client is actually splitting into two companies (hence the new server) and the new company only has 8 people.

I'm tellin gyou McAfee ASAP/Total Protection is a snap to admin (web based) and is a nice, thin client that is very effcient.

I think we'll be purchasing this today.
