Are the one time use numbers the most secure? I might go that route. I ordered a credit card with a chip built in along with a card reader which hooks up to your PC. But I've been told even though you swipe your card and have to use the pin, that the merchant still gets you credit card number anyway to store on his site. And thats the major problem anyway when a server gets hacked and credit card numbers and data are accessed. You can shop online at 1000 different merchants, and all it takes is for ONE of them to get hacked to have to call up your credit card company to cancel and have new cards issued. What a pain, and the situation seems to be getting worse.

It is getting worse.:| I have an E business and a contract with a company called creditcards.com that handles all my transactions. They where hacked and an unkown number of credit card numbers have been stolen. I am talking to my attorney now about canceling the contract. They have not taklen the steps necessary to provide a safe and secure method for handling these kinds of transactions and I would think they have breached thier contract. They have an obligation to account for the merchantabilty of thier services. I intend to sue the heck out of them should they try to hold me to our contract.

These creditcard companies databases are a target. They have some very damaging information in them.

When you find one that satisfies your needs, please let us all know.

This looks like it could be promising

My AMEX card has a private payments feature where I can go to my credit card company's secure site and receive a one time use number which I will then give to the online merchant. Than that number will be linked back to the main cc# at AMEX. With a one time use number if a merchants site gets hacked that number is useless to the hackers, because its expired.

A feature needed because of the rash of data thefts by off shore hacks. There has to be a safer way to transact business on the net. I am going to only accept checks, money orders, and cash if this problem is not cleared up soon.
