There's Picard, Kirk, Sisco, Ender, and Adama just to name a very very few. This isn't limited to popular TV shows. You can nominate captains/leaders from novels and comics.

After a list has been generated, we'll have an epic Poll-off to finally settle who is the BEST sci-fi leader ever to grace sci-fi.

EDIT:
LOL I didn't notice the poll was updating as I was adding answers to the poll. I was just going through the thread and adding the nominations, hahaha.

The poll is in no particular order. It's in the order of the posts of these threads. I can always update it as the thread moves along.

My prediction: I think either Picard, Adama, or Thrawn will win. I believe most of the nominated are very very worthy badasses/great leaders in the fictional universes. I think what our perception of a Great leader is an interesting commentary who we look for in our real-life leaders. We are a very social species who also seek/idolize great leadership.

Dylan Hunt, captain of the Andromeda Ascendant, played by Kevin Sorbo (yeah, like he's going to win any polls, lol)
Stanley H. Tweedle, captain of the Lexx (this show is just demented, but you should definitely watch the uncensored version of "Boomtown")
The Doctor (yeah, I think he counts)
John Sheridan, from Babylon 5, played by Bruce Boxleitner
John Chrighton, from Farscape

You have to throw in Honor Harrington if you're going to talk great commanders from sci-fi.

From TV/Film it's hard to not nominate Admiral Piett. One of the few Admirals that Vader didn't choke the life out of. When you stare down the eyes of the Dark Lord of the Sith and live, that's a good indication you're doing a good job. Yes, Thrawn was a great tactician, but was utterly flawed because he was a clone.

Also have to say that Mal ranks right up there.

Brig. Gen. Jack D. Ripper.

Well actually I prefer Grp. Cpt. Lionel Mandrake, but he was second in command.

Picard really had the respect of his crew, you have to say that he's probably the best in the traditional sense. People like Adama were flawed if more believable.

Then again, Picard never had the pressure that Adama had.
