I'm looking for the best scanner for $150 or less. I've read a few reviews, one from CNET, one from Consumer Reports (I just happened to come across a copy), and one from PC World, each recommending the Epson Perfection 3170 Photo, Epson Perfection 3170 Photo, and the Epson Perfection 2480 Photo respectively. My decision is now done to between the Epson Perfection 3170 and 2480 Photo, but I've yet to figure out the differences between the two. The most obvious difference to me though, is that the 2480 recently launched and the 3170 has been on the market for a while. I'm not partial to a particular brand of scanners, so please tell me which one is the better one, or make your own recommendation. I'm open to suggestions since I'm a newbie to scanners. Thanks for any help, suggestions, or recommendations provided.

I've owned the 3170 for the past year and am very please with it as it does 12 small negs at once, 4 2x2's with other features ( Silverfast, USB Hi-Speed)because it is a step down from the 4870. Now that they have the newer models out, I still think the 3170 would be 1 better choice as the 2480 Photo is replacing the 1670 Photo...Also the 4180 Photo has a $50 rebate making it about the same price as the 3170 Photo...

I know I've had mine for at least 9 months and I think the release announcement date was Sept 03. Maybe the one XbitLabs is refering to has some new stuffs (Rev2?) on it but surely the 1st 3170 to be released wasn't a few months back...even on Amazon you can read reviews on it fromas January of this year
