I pretty much need Asics shoes, because they have the best forefoot cushioning, and I experience a lot of pain in the balls of my feet running in other shoes. I think all of the major makers make quality shoes, but orthotically I would have to pick NB and Asics as the best-engineered.
Hey Don Vito............ are you covered by extended health insurance? If so go to a Chiropractor and get a prescription for orthotics. I was fitted with orthotics and now my foot & back pain are much more relieved (I play Icec hockey, floor hockey and lots of racket sports).
if just starting out, any of the major brands (nike, adidas, reebok, asics, new balance, saucony, brooks) should be fine. nod to new balance for serious runners. but for looks...nike air max 95s! 🙂
i run cross country and track in high school. from my expierence new balances are WAY to heavy, adidas fall apart in a day, nikes are good shoes but they fall apart after about 1000 miles. if that seems like a lot, well where i run we train hard
I have slender, very delicate feet and perversly I'm hard on shoes, the balls of my feet are sensitive,oh and when I was younger I had shinsplits,so good support is a must.I may try more Asic's because I loved the last pair but might also try the NB🙂
New Balance without a doubt. The great thing about NB shoes is that they come in so many different widths unlike other comapny's single "ideal" shoe width. This is really important to keep in mind if you have very narrow or (like me) wide feet.
If you're feet are narrow Adidas might fit you - I have wide feet so they don't work too well with my feet (although I'm too cheap to buy a new pair heh)
New Balance shoes are nice, but you pretty much have to get their nicer stuff ($100+ models) for them to be worth it. Their lower and middle end stuff is no better than the shoes from other manufacturers in my experience.
If you're not wanting to spend a fortune, I've personally found Saucony to make the best shoes for the price. All of my Saucony's have held up well over the years offering good durability. The poorest quality brands I've come across have been Nike and Asics. Granted, I didn't get their highest end stuff, but none of the shoes I've ever had from them have held up at all.

I have very narrow feet,I'm not crazy about spending a lot of money for shoes but since I only get one pair of feet I'll do it rather than hurt myself🙂
