I've been power walking for quite awhile now but feel running might be more effective time wise .What's the best running shoe for a beginner?

it depends on you feet and how you run. some shoes work better for some people then others do

personall i like Asics and adidas

I have a pair of Asic cross trainers that were cool but they're kinda beat now, time for new shoes.

nb's are pretty nice... i like adidas running shoes too... comfortable and cheap (except the climacools which don't fit my feet)

I use Nike Air Huaraches. Even though the design is several years old, I've found them to be real cushiony and they weigh practically nothing. I'm a heavier runner, so they may not fit as well for you. BTW, I also won a pair of Shox. They're OK, but nothing special...just hype.

I like a cushy shoe, nothing worse than burning balls of the feet.

it's not so much which one is the best but which one is the best for your foot. Visit a few shoes stores and hopefully, someone will really know what they're talking about and help you out.

Nike and Adidas have been what I've traditionally bought but I've always bought a size or two bigger than what I need because they run narrow and I have a wide foot. So I have always bought size 12 sneakers. I've never had trouble with them but then my g/f's sister who is a college track star and knows a lot about running shoes and also works a store that specializes in running shoes helped me out one time this past summer.

She measured my foot, asked my to jog and walk to see how my foot moves, etc. I tried everything on from Nike to Asaic to Saucony. Spent a couple hours in the store. Finally I tried out a pair of New Balance who make a wider shoe and it turns out I have about a 10.5 size foot but like a 4E width.

When I tried on those New Balances, they fit perfect! really like they were just part of my foot, just more cushion now. I only wish I had had these when I ran track seriously in high school.

It's really made running a lot more fun.

Another tip is if you run for long distances, invest in a pair of athletic insoles for whatever shoe you buy. The extra cushion helps a lot.

Good luck with your search.

New Balance and if you don't love them I'll come over and give you a foot massage 😀

ps. bring your son a Canucks Jersey also 😉 😀

Cheers,
Aquaman

Definitely New Balance, I use 'em. Use Nike when racing, but for training, NB is the best.
