Fallout & Fallout 2.

You've played the best games ourt there. You're screwed.

Actually, Deus Ex comes to mind - and the sequel is supposed to come out soon . . ..

Jagged Alliance 2 is almost an RPG -- your squad of mercenaries each have different attributes like marksmanship and skills (medical, mechanical, explosive) and all improve over time with practice. You're on a quest to free Arulco from the dictator, there just aren't the huge pile of side-quests like in Fallout.

Fallout Tactics isn't as good as JA2 at simulating the squad-level combat but it's fun enough for bargain-bin prices.

Take note that there is a new game called Lionheart that uses the FO/FO2 rpg system. Should be about as entertaining as the FOs were.

Arcanuum is not as good as FO. The battle system is unbalanced. The pretext of the game is very attractive but the game is not as balanced, fun, or funny. Wow has it really been 2 years....

Lionheart review at GameSpot, they only gave it a 6.5. It looks like it might be worth a demo download at least though.

"If you've played and enjoyed earlier RPGs from Black Isle Studios, this one won't impress you, but at least it'll remind you of those great games."

Ah, one of my favorites of recent years. Flawed, yes, but still a lot of fun once you get past the slow start (all bugs have now been patched, I think). Sure, it's not as good as Fallout...what is?

It's definitely one of those games that polarizes people into "love it" or "hate it" camps. But considering how cheap it must be now I would give it a whirl if I were you. The game's setting is steampunk so it does include some swords & sorcery, but you don't have to use them. Try the other side of the coin and play as a technical character--build your own guns and armor and then take out your frustration over the glut of fantasy RPGs on the poor sword-wielding inhabitants of Arcanum. :p

Other than that there's not much to choose from in terms of non-fantasy CRPGs. :( The role-playing genre is stuck in fantasy mode and probably will be at least until the economy improves. The other games I can think of (besides those already mentioned) are mostly reaches:

Anachronox --> Okay, this was a *REALLY* flawed game. I wasn't crazy about the "console"-ish feel but it did have a lot to like (original space setting, original and interesting NPCs, semi-interesting plot, quirky humor). Too bad all of that was buried under bugs, bugs and more bugs. I haven't played since my first attempt was stopped cold by a game-killing CTD during the final boss battle (arrgghhh!!!), so I don't know whether patches eventually solved the many problems.

Septerra Core --> A linear console-style game a la Final Fantasy. IIRC it has both fantasy and sci-fi elements, just like FF. Personally I despised it (interesting plot, but repetitive random battles drained the fun from the game for me) but I know people who really enjoyed it.

Anarchy Online, EVE Online, Neocron --> Sci-fi/post-apocalyptic MMORPGs. Haven't played any of them, don't know anything about them.

Wasteland, Fountain of Dreams --> Prequels to Fallout, but not as good (IMO). Of the two play Wasteland first, but if you really can't stomach very old games don't bother with either title.

Privateer, Elite, Freelancer --> Space sims a la Wing Commander, but with RPG elements. Privateer is very old and Elite is ancient.

System Shock 2, No One Lives Forever 2 --> FPS's with slight RPG elements like Deus Ex. SS2 is a kickass game I highly recommend to everyone. NOLF2 is a good FPS too, but its RPG elements are almost nonexistent.

Sid Meiers Pirates!, Sea Dogs, Pirates 2 (to be released) --> Strategy games with slight RPG elements. Pirates is an old classic. Sea Dogs sounds like an updated version of Pirates that I'll eventually try to hold me off until Pirates 2 comes out.

Knights of the Old Republic (to be released) --> Yeah, it's still fantasy, but it's *space* fantasy so that's...uh...kinda different, I guess.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (to be released) --> From the Fallout team, using the Half-Life 2 engine...sounds promising. Steer clear of the first Vampire: The Maquerade game (Redemption), which is utter crap.

You might also try the adventure genre as a whole if you haven't already, since there are many great non-fantasy titles to choose from (even if many are a bit dated). IMO there's quite a lot of overlap betwen adventure and role-playing video games.

My vote goes to Knights of the Old Republic. I love this game, it has me hooked. If you have an X-box I really recommend you get this game.

Planescape: Torment is swords & sorcery, but it is by Black Isle and considered one of the top 5 of PC RPGs along with FO1-2. It's almost more of an interactive novel than a RPG because there is so much story, even more than in Fallout.

My favorite computer RPGs are Fallout, Fallout 2, Deus Ex, and Morrowind. I've found that computer RPG's tend to lack a strong storyline, mainly because they're so open ended. Deus Ex was less open ended and had a good story though.

And if none of those 'easy' rpg's give you a fix, you could take a challenge and try a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RPG). There's ALOT of them out there.
You want one with shooting... hmmm... sadly there's no good ones, but you could try http://www.endlessages.com . Or maybe http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com . The same site that StarWarsGalaxies is at has some interesting time-wasting games as well.
IF you dont mind a 3rd person view, you could try http://www.shatteredgalaxy.com. It won some awards when it came out, and seemed kinda interesting. Not sure how its going nowadays, but its an interesting concept in a game.

Deus Ex was considered an RPG? I loved that game and I am not much of an RPG guy. Can't wait for the second one....
