Best RPG game for PSX1?

I like the Final Fantasy series I also picked up and am currently playing Legends of the Dragoon which I find to be entertaining as well. Any other suggestions? Thx

FF7 is the only one of the FF's worth playing through. Xenogears is hailed as incredible by some, and excrutiatingly long by me. I never played Wild Arms 1/2, but heard good things about both.

FF7 is good, FF8 was decently fun but the story blew IMO. FF9 was just lame. Xenogears is amazing (best story in an RPG ever, by far - BUT you have to get past the slow beginning). Final Fantasy Tactics is good, but more strategy than RPG. Saga Frontier is weird and never got good reviews but I loved it. Parasite Eve is interesting, and pretty fun.

Isnt chrono trigger available on PS1 bundled with chrono cross? cross sucked but trigger is one of the best RPGs ever imo.

I highly enjoyed both Wild Arms and Final Fantasy IX.
