Best router w/ wirless

By any chance would anyone know if there is a router out there, that easy to use w/ NO MAJOR PROBLEMS. At the same time provides reliable services and wirless capabilities.

Wirless capabilities 802.11a and 802.11g (If possible).

I personally like Netgear...I own 2 814v1 and 814v2...very easy to use ...

I realize these are not g protocol but they ca nbe had cheap....I would consider netgear for ease
 
I'm using a Netgear wireless 'G' router (model WGR614). It was incredibly easy to set up and has given me no problems whatsoever. It also has pretty nice security features and the range is great on it. I would recommend it!

Since you did not mention price. For 802.11b/g look at the Bufallo Tech line, or the Proxim Orinoco line.

802.11a/g, the choices are so limited that you have to buy what you can find.

I'm also looking to purchase a wireless router. Was considering the Linksys wrt54g, but I haven't heard anything about it or any other router for that matter. It'll be wired to my desktop and wireless for my laptop for now until i get my other system up and then my current desktop will also become wireless along with the laptop and the other system will be wired. I've heard that i'll have problems with that router and my 2.4ghz cordless phone. So I guess i'll look into netgear, but if anyone else has other suggestions i'm open.
 
I'm a fan of netgear products simply because they are the only ones that *I've seen* that took the extra 30 seconds to put a WEP passphrase generator into the router config page and wireless adapter drivers.

That alone makes them better than just about anything else that I've tried using.

Linksys does that too...

I use the WRT54G with the hacked firmware on both my wireless routers... works great 🙂
 
Yeah "Hacked" Linksys.

For a while I use to mention it too.

The whole Sveasoft site is ??Strange?? you can not find a straight place to download with a straight set of instructions and emergency plan if it does not work the posted documents where not updated to fit the current releases. The site seems almost deliberately disorganized and evasive.

I think that the guys that started it got upset that it is Open source and they cam not find a way to make some money of it.

Does anyone know if Airlink is any good, the brand, is it reliable, or is it consider the low quality version of Linksys and Netgear

since you did mention bang for the buck, i would recommend the dlink DI-624. I've been using it for quite some time connecting 8 computers, 4 wired, 4 wireless and an occasional visiting notebook and pdas and its rock solid. Setting up is easy using its wizard.
 
WRT54G is a great way to go - you can use a passphrase for WEP encryption, and the hacked firmware (use Wifi-box) enables a lot of features (more than I need, but more is better in this case). For one thing you can increase the antenna trasmit power, and it also has more port forwarding options.

Buy.com is selling them for 59.99 shipped right now. You will not be disappointed.
 
I've had the WRT54G since February, but the past couple weeks it cuts out or something once a day or so and I have to pull the power plug, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect. It is then fine for the next day or so. Is it maybe starting to crap out or is there some weird reason for this?
 
When using a wireless network, how well does the signal get transmitted vertically ?

I have my main rig and internet connection in the basement and want to look at getting a wireless network going where my wife could use a laptop upstairs in the bedroom. The actual distance to the bedroom or living room would be anywhere from 20 to 40 feet


and the elevation from the basement to the 1st floor would be like 12 feet


anyone else have simular experience with something like this ?

I've seen some ridiculously cheap prices on the Dlink Di-624. After rebates you can get it for under $50, maybe $40. Can't beat that.
