Best router for online gaming...

I currently have the D-Link DIR-655. We still get periodic (3-4 times per week) severe lag that makes the game unplayable.

Our system:
Asus P5B-D MB / E8400 @ 3.6ghz / nvidia GTX-280 / 4 gig G Skill mem / X-Fi sound
Cox cable internet (22down/4up) / Win 7- 64 bit OS

On East coast/US, with 50 'ping' to the gaming server in Chicago. In task manager, typically have about 30-32 processes running. I do turn off my anti-virus prog before playing. Ports are forwarded for the game. But, I can't seem to forward the ports for TeamSpeak3 which is the chat program our clan uses with COD-WaW. My wife's computer in same room is also connected to the router. We get the lag whether or not she is web-surfing.

help/ideas... thx folks....

That is most likely your provider and not the router. The Internet has variables that you can't control including latency and jitter. It's jut a fact of the internet.

This is an example of a trace.

As you can see the Router contribution is 0-1 ms.

A Specific Router of any Brand might be Borken and create a problem. Otherwise any Router would do as a gaming Router.

The weak link in gaming is in most cases the Human Neuroware that is slower and more variant than the Internet.
