i'm not even sure you can make a poll out of this. there's just too many bands and everyone has their favorites so its useless.

I took that into consideration and entered only bands/artists that are among the most renowned in the world. Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots are some of my favorites too, but they aren't exactly considered "legends".

Greatest as in who made the most money and got the most famous, or greatest as in the most artistic and talented?

van halen, aerosmith, rush, and black sabbath have no business being on any list with the word "great" in the title.

but your missing the doors, the who, hendrix, yardbirds, derek and the dominoes, queen, boston, iron maiden, metalicca, and dozens of others much more worthy than quite a few of the bands on your list.

EDIT: the clash, nirvana, pearl jam, gnr, rhcp, ratm, beach boys, honestly you need about 30 more on that list to have it even be a choice.

and i vote for the clash.

I am trying to keep the list in the 70's era when rock music really took off. Technically all of the list fits with the exception of the Beatles, who's first album that made them was recorded in 1963. U2 really doesn't fit either, because their first album was recorded in 1980 so technically they should be on a 1980-1990 list. But since those two bands are already on the list and have votes I'll leave them on it.

I will edit the question since it was too vague and I keep getting PM's to add bands that took off during the 80's (Metallica, Motley Crue, etc...) I'll save that one for the next poll.
