I want to get a DVD-ROM drive to go with my 811s Liteon. Why? Think episodes.

Liteon 16X DVD model 166

Your Liteon 811S should still rip faster then other DVD burners on default.

I did the same thing you're doing. I have a Lite-On 411s and I wanted a fast dvd rom ripper. I got the Lite-On and I'm ripping a dvd as we speak at 10x. The Lite-Ons do the job. Speed will depend on your cpu speed as well, but as for the best ripper, get a Lite-On.

Dual layer or single?

Dual. While you're at it could you suggest a good dual layer burner?

They are not out yet, DVD dual layer blanks aren't even available yet.

Lite-On burners have faster ripping then Pioneer, Optorite, NEC. The 411S/451S/811S rips around 5X-8X with the latest firmware.

I like the Slot Pioneer DVDRoms, they are quiet and do not interfere with a tray ejecting

I just got my HD-166S. There is no difference between this and 411S in terms of ripping speed!

Isn't there supposed to be some DVD-Roms that rip faster then others with a Hacked Firmware. Something about how all DVD-Roms are slowed down for some reason?
