Best rig for....

Unfortunately, my rig just got fried(don't Ask for the gory details...smaok..etc,) and I am in need of a new mobo and chip.
I am at college right with no pc (the horror) and need to get a mobo chip and ram

By the way, trust me on this one, When your components are black, you have to take 'em to the trash....

I have $300 dollars to use, and want to get the best.

I was thinking:

Epox 8HKA+
AMD XP 1600
512BD 2100 DDR

Got any recommendations.

Seems like i will notice the difference between the XP1600 and the 1.4 Athlon c

Tell me what u think.

The rest of my Main parts(They actually work)

Radeon 64MBddr VIVO
40GB IBM Deskstar
18GB QUantum Atlas 10kII
Adpatec 19160 ultra160card
Happague craptv
3com NIC
Burner dvd etc.

Tell me if you need anything else...

My pnly prob with the EPox is the lack of feautures. Their website might be to blame because I could get much info on it.

By the way, i HAD a piii 700E and I HAD an Asus P2B-F. Best computer I've ever had, Used to have win2k servers on for months without rebooting.

The Pain!!!!

Good idea, just make sure it's the KT266A

<< AMD XP 1600 >>

Spend the extra $25 and get the 1700+

<< 512BD 2100 DDR >>

Good amount - Check Crucial for good prices.

Not as much as the difference between the 1700 and te 1.4 Athlon, IMHO

Thanks....Bu t should i go with the Abit boards instead.

"Heard" they were better.....I personally think the kt266a is better too. Just was wondering if abit had implemented it yet.
