Capital One has some really good ones.

**Side Note** As a PSA to you on behalf of your local merchants --> Do not use rewards cards at local shops!! The cost of the rewards you recieve is passed on to the merchant, so they make less money on your purchase than if using a regular CC (which still costs them money). Feel free to go to town on the big stores, but be kind to your local owners and pay cash!

There aren't that many really good cards left. But there are some. I'm not really up to date though on the latest offerings so I won't chime in.

If I have to give up my rewards and hassle with cash just to benefit a shop keeper that will screw me if given the chance, then I'll just go shop at the big stores. I'm sure they'd much rather give me 1% back (slightly less profit) than lose my business completely (no profit at all). If that 1% destroys their profit margin, then they are going out of business anyways so I'll just use my CC. Thanks.

I'm assuming you need a fed job in order to get one of these CCs?

American Express True Earnings Costco

3% cashback on gas
3% cashback on restaurants
2% cashback on travel
1% cashback everywhere else
3% cashback from costco (1% cashback plus 2% cashback with executive club membership)

Plus, there's no annual fee, and they put your picture on the back of the card.

I just applied for one of these. It's in the mail now. Going to give up my Alaska airlines card since getting a seat based on miles is a pain.

I am considering calling up Chase and bitching them out. At least take away my perks with a straight face and not lie to me by saying, "WE'VE UPGRADED YOUR REWARDS CARD TO USER A NEW BETTER POINTS SYSTEM."

My ass its better. With my monthly spending I am going from earning roughly $300 a year to maybe $75 a year. If I didn't have such a great APR (6.24%) I would drop this card.

might want to look at the perfect card. they have 3% gas and 1% everything else and they credit your account immediately instead of toying with those $25 incremental rewards. i switched from an old vanilla master card to that and kept my rate (7.5%)

I still have my old Chase Visa Cash Rewards card, they didnt switch me over to Freedom like some of the other cardholders - 5% gas, groceries, pharm, 1% all else

Im actually really liking my Chase Amazon card... 3% at AMZ, which really covers a ton of shopping in general, but it also gives 2% on Dining/Restaurants, pharm and gas,1% all else. i eat out a bunch, so that extra percent does actually add up. You can get cash/check back, NOT just AMZ gcs

yeah i have the perfect card also. used to have slightly higher rewards, but not a bad gas card. if i do lose my 5% on gas, thats my next best choice.

Best? best in what? mile, point, credit?

To me, best = cash back

The Schwab 2% cashback on everything and no limit = best.

Chase is ok but only 1% on everything and they are making some changes in which never good for us consumers.

Go here and see which CC is most suitable for you = http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/711457/

I would say cashback would be best.

Also 2% cash back sounds great. But it sounds like they only way you get it is if they deposit it into a brokerage account. I already have a broker and don't plan on switching.

I'm staying away from Chase/Citi/AmEx since they've reduced or cancelled cards for many people.

No, there are several possible things that will get you in for free but if you don't meet those you can make a one-time tax-deductible $20 donation to the National Military Family Assoc and get in. You do not need the 3 year or lifetime membership. Their rates on everything are pretty kick ass, I have my car and house financed through them as well.

Open another one. No minimum deposit, no service fee, cost you nothing as long as you got appproved the Schwab CC Visa.

I already have accounts at Fidelity and Vanguard but I also open another one at Schwab just for the cashback reward.

The reason I like the 2% across the board because I only charge about $60 per month for gasoline and I do not eat out much (not as I used to) and I don't buy much in groceries and I rarely if ever shop at drugstores/pharmarcies.

That is why you need to sit down and decide on what are the categories you spend the most money on and then pick which CC most suitable for your lifestyle.

One thing I do like about Chase is that if I save up to $200, I can redeem for $250 check from Chase ($50 bonus). Can't beat that.

Penfed rocks but they don't like people who have recent credit inquiries on their record. Also gave me the biggest credit line of any card I have, but I had to provide proof of income.
