Best rewards CC for a 22-year old with 750 credit rating?

So I'm finally getting around to getting a new card and am looking for a good benefits card. I don't need anything with mileage perks since I seldomly fly the friendly skies. I guess there's always the usual, CitiBank, BoA, Chase Manhattan...but am I missing any? And what makes one necessarily better than the others? This will be my primary card, so the AmEx Blue Cash is out of the question as it has to be accepted everywhere (i.e., MC or Visa).

Thanks...really sick of my card not doing anything for me, especially now that I'm spending more and more.

edit: I currently have an MBNA Mastercard with the Univ. Of Mich. program, if that matters at all. Relatively low cap at $2500 (requested), but I'm probably looking for a higher cap.

My main card is an AMEX Blue and I have only had an issue with it not being accepted at one place, Autotrader.com.

I've honestly only come across maybe two or three places that didn't accept AMEX. I've been carrying one for more then 2 years now.

I wanna say I'm around 715 or so. The reason mine is low has to do with the fact that I've only got 2 credit card with low limits ($2500-4000) and carry a balance on them. 😉

715 is low?

My Paypal Credit card (through Providian, with 25% interest 🙂) is the only credit card I use... and I would like a better card with lower interest and some type of rewards. Providian just started a thing where you get free FICO scores, whenever you want. I like that feature... but that's the ONLY thing I like about it.

your credit score doesn't really depend on how much you owe. i'm 22, have a 748, yet i owe around $6,000 in CC and close to $60,000 in student loans.

IIRC student loans are viewed quite differently when determining your credit-worthiness...

Holy sh!t! I just checked my credit score (Providian) and its 772!:Q

I just checked mine and it is 722. The reasons it lists are because I have had too many inquiries lately (7 in the last year!).

FICO cares a great deal about how much you owe.....in relation to how much you CAN owe.

For example, owing $6000, but only having $6100 in total combined credit limits looks very bad. Shows you're maxxed out.

Owing 60 Million with 60 Billion in credit limits just means Mr. Gates has decided to aquire a new nation today.

Hot damn, I actually got some responses! Thanks all...for those of you that have gone through different rewards cards, which ones are you with now and why?

I was honestly surprised when I saw 22 responses. 😉 (And work's cut off internet priveleges, so I'm being naughty right now...I miss ATOT at work 😛)

Well, this thread just prompted me to do my yearly check on my credit score and it looks pretty good. A couple of things for people to keep in mind. 750+ is excellent credit and according to equifax roughly 40% of the country has excellent credit. The only negative on mine was a relatively short credit history of only 146 months, when the average is 14-15 years. I mean 12 years and not 14 and that's a negative? Ah well, it's good enough to get the best rates so I'm happy.

To the OP, I'm sticking with my Citibank Driver's Edge for the moment. I don't use my card much at all anymore and I've cashed in my $450 rebates just a few months ago so maybe I should consider a new card. It will have to be Citibank though because I get the employee rate here (prime + 1%).
