Best Reuben Place?

Ya I went to Philippe's a long time ago for a french dip and came away really disappointed. And yes, go to Langer's for pastrami--but let's say for some mystical cosmos unknown to god reason I was there and didn't want pastrami (blasphemy). Is the (beef) french dip *worth* getting?

lamb french dip @ philippes significantly better than beef, but Langers trumps both by a mile.

French Dip is another thing that The Refuge does really well. the au jus is fucking decadent.

pastrami / double baked rye / cole slaw / russian dressing / swiss

only mayo is in the cole slaw, and it's not overwhelming. The #19 > sum of it's parts

I went to Katz, had it OG style (rye / pastrami / mustard) and it's no comparison.

This is going to sound lame, but I'm in Vegas and I even miss the simple mediocre LA style pastrami joints like The Hat. I found one here but it was rather bland and overpriced.

earl of sandwich @ planet hollywood, $5 sandwiches all day. LOVED the club I had there, and open 24/7.

If I had 5MM to spare I'd open a chain of earl of sandwich franchises in SoCal


decent NY pizza joint (7/10 by NY standards) @ cosmopolitan, next to Jose Andres' restaurant.

I tend to avoid the hotels mostly, especially the east side of the strip, but I'll keep that in mind. I was pretty disappointed by "Secret Pizza" at Cosmo, though. I'll stick to my local NY style, Broadway Pizza.

where's broadway pizza? i was very limited when i went to LV last because I didn't have a car.

Ya I live in Vegas, 8 years now. Broadway Pizza is on Rancho/Charleston. It's good but I certainly wouldn't make a trip for it, there were plenty of joints in LA that were just as good. Ya that's secret pizza. Lotus of Siam is AMAZING. I don't go there often enough. If you want something else next level next time you're in town, hit up Raku for Japanese off the strip on Spring Mountain.

A reuben made with pastrami? I'd never heard of that. Is that common? I'm gluten and casein sensitive, so I only get sandwiches every several blue moons these days. All this Reuben talk is making me drool, though...a good prime rib sandwich with a stout sounds good too. What kind of beer do you pair with a Reuben? I don't think I've had for like ten years.
