Best restaurant/pub type chain to take the department to for beer (my treat)

Just got the news that I've gotten a promotion at work. They're doing the official offer tomorrow and will probably announce it to the department either tomorrow afternoon or Thursday. Both to thank my co-workers for their great support and kindness since I've been there and as a "thank you" for their hard work this season (we're in the finance field so tax season is our busy time) I'd considering hosting a get-together at some local establishment and buying the first round.

Now personally I don't care for the big chain-type places (Chi Chis, Applebees, etc) but think that's probably the best choice for a large gathering like this. Plus my tastes in beer (stouts and German/Belgian beers) would set me back a few C notes if I bought a round at the Capital Ale House or similar at $6-8/bottle. I don't mind spending money but think that the peeps as a whole would be just as happy if not happier with a dozen pitchers of American liquid gold (Bud, Coors Light, etc), and for civilized few those with more refined tastes I could always spring for some Paulaner hefe weisse or something which is actually drinkable 😉

So I'm going to seek out the collective wisdom of the ATOT crowd as a representative sample of the population at large. Looking for what would be YOUR choice of venue if the boss were having everyone out and buying the first dozen pitchers or beer or so 🙂

im a cheapskate. local bar by me sells a 16oz glass of pabst for $1.50

seriously, im surrounded by microbrews and frequent a few of them around here quite often. thats whatd i do. make sure they have a full bar too. shots are appropriate (appropriate enough that if someone does something stupid, you have something to laugh about tomorrow at work).

Richmond, VA. The workplace is out in the suburbs in a large office park complex, so we have the standard rogues gallery of pub-restaurant type places around (think Applebees, Chilis, Cheesecake Factory, etc etc etc, if you can think of a chain we probably have it) but not much in the way of non-chain places with some actual personality.

its also a chain, but what about fridays (t.g.i.f.)? the one by me has a pretty decent happy hour and a pretty good selection of brews/liquors.

edit: aw crap, forgot about the 50-60 people. fridays would sh*t themselves. good luck.

Got Old Chicago pizza nearby? Those have one of the best on tap and micro brew selections of any chain restaurant I've been to and they often have a "cafeteria" type seating area in a side section you could probably rent out.

Richbrau would probably accommodate 50-60 people easy. They have a huge upstairs with many pool tables and a big dance area and they make their own beer.

Legends is pretty nice, but its been a few years and I cant remember how big it is on the inside, I was on the patio last time I went.

Buying a round for 50-60 people? Over a promotion? Only appropriate if you A) become manager of the department or B) get an increase in pay of more than $20k.
