Best resolution TV

I've got an ATI Radeon w/TV out (RCA & S-Video). My 27" Zenith TV displays a poor picture of my PC image, probabably because the Zenith supports less than 500 lines of horizontal resolution. I'm considering purchasing a high resolution (digital) TV. The highest resolution I've noticed is 930 lines of horizontal resolution (864,000 pixels)in the RCA MM36100 36" HDTV ready monitor for $1,500.00. Are there better or equivalent monitors on the market for less? Will a $600.00, 700 line TV display 800*600 fairly well? Can I get a link to a site that discusses PC to TV output and pixel vs line resolution in detail. Thanks!
