Best replacement for aging 8800 GTS 640?

I was thinking about doing exactly what you did, I'm on XP with a Coreduo, a GT8800 and 2GB ram, so I thought I would go windows 7 a 7770 and another 2GB ram but now I'm thinking about doing it all from scratch. Let me know if you can run newer games and stuff if you dont mind.
