I do a lot of file transferring @ school, and want to be able to control some of the programs (Direct Connect, SmartFTP) from home every now and then. I'd like to setup something that can be tightened down security-wise, but still will allow me to control the desktop remotely...what's the best program for something like this?

<< Honestly I just use WinXP Pro's remote desktop function. It works great for me. >>

Yeah, I just wasn't sure about how secure that function was.

Ok, I'm checking that out now.

Vnc has saved my butt. Did have Sms remote control, but the error correction in the protocol slowed it down to a trickle, even over a relatively high speed wan connection.
Vnc all the way!:D

VNC works great. Been using it for a long time now and have had no problems. Setup is a breeze.

I use WinXP Remote Desktop everyday to post from work. Its very good and has 128bit encryption for security.

<< Xwindows rocks. But that's linux stuff... >>

Yeah, I run Xwin32 for my Windows -> Linux connections, and have now decided just to use the WinXP RDC stuff.

VNC is a free remote program from Bell Labs. I find it's kind of laggy on a LAN connection though :(

XP's built in Remote Desktop rocks....especially with the web interface enabled. It's built on Terminal Services, so it's very secure.
