I was wondering what is the best reliable used car with a low resale value?

I dont mean acuras or hondas. Those have such a high resale value after 3 years.

Any ideas?

Nissan.
Then Mazda.
Then any GM truck/SUV or midsize car with the 3.8L V6.

I'd put Hyundai between Nissan and Mazda as well. Subaru would go above nissan, but resale values are pretty high on subarus.

mitsubishi has low resale....and they're pretty reliable. My friend got a 2000 galant for under 12000.

I'd buy a hyundai, and even a ford before I bought a DSM vehicle.

i definitely agree with the mitsubishi purchase of the galant,
i bought a 95 in 2000 for 4000 and it still is in pretty good condition.

i'm looking for a midsized to compact car. I think although honda cars are highly rated, they are overpriced in terms of their resale value because nowadays cars are much more reliable than before.

I'd say look at the previous generation nissan Altima or the Mazda Protege.

Even though you can't get it with a V6, I'd take a previous gen Altima over a Grand Am/Malibu any day of the week. I'm not a fan of GM's 3.1L/3.4L engines and I'm REALLY not fond of the craptastic build quality of either.

Chevy (Geo) Prism. It's the same as a Toyota Carolla, but the resale is a lot less just because of the nameplate.

If you want a small truck, look at the late-model Mazda B-Series pickups. They are mechanically identical to the Ford Rangers, but people don't want to pay as much for a "jap truck" so the resale value on the B-Series is lower than it ought to be.

Most Nissans are OK, but stay away from the Maxima's 1988 style (all the years that it had that style). I was looking at a very sharp one and my mechanic said that that particular generation of Maxima was a problem magnet.

any car with a 302, 305, 350, gm 3.8L V6, ford 3.0L V6. iron dukes(2.5L 4 banger) run forever but they're slow as hell. also mopar 80's-early90's 4 cylinders either ran forever or died early. my friend's dodge van lasted 330k km's before the tranny died, engine still runs like new though.

If you can find one go for a Chevy/Geo Prizm (rebadged Toyota Corolla).

A 2.2 Cavalier. You can get one with low miles, in good condition, and only two years old for about $5000 or less. You can drive them into the ground and they'll just keep going. Best bang for the buck easily if all you want is A to B transportation.

hyundai's reliability improved immensely after 1999, so it would be a nice choice especially on the already-cheap Elantra. plus its good looking too.

I love the Galant too, I think it looks way better than camry, accord, and older altima.
