Best refresh rate?

What should my refresh rate be? I'm running at 1024 x 768 now with 75 Hz refresh rate. Anyone think I should change it?

Does it seem to "flicker" or hurt your eyes after staring at it for a while? If so up it. I run mine at 75hz

Not necessary. You should use the recommended optimal resolution and refresh rate for your monitor. Using too high refresh rate at a given resolution can actually make things less sharp.

Make sure the refresh rate is the highest supported by your monitor at the resolution you use.

As for what number you need, it varies from person and it's usually around the 75 Hz -120 Hz range. Nobody can tell you what your preference is so you'll just have to experiment a bit.

If when playing HALO, my preference is vsync the fps, would I get faster response with an 85 hz refresh rate vs a 75?

DAM, KID!!!

The higher your refresh rate, the better response you get. Don't set the refresh rate too high, because it will make the image blurrier. Set it like the second-highest refresh rate at your chosen resolution.

With v-sync on and your refresh set to 75 your fps are capped at 75. With refresh at 100 then your highest fps will be 100.

Yes but the best response comes from disabling vsync completely and running your refresh rate as high as possible.

Set it to your preference, no point in using the highest refresh rate a monitor can use just because it's the highest setting.

Open up a full window with mostly white backgrounds, like explorer. Shift your view slightly to the side, using only your peripheral vision to see the screen. Your peripheral vision can see the flickering if it's set too low. Raise the refresh rate until you don't notice flickering.

The majority of people are fine at 75Hz. But some are even more sensitive up to 85Hz... even 100Hz... but they might just be lying to appear superhuman. ;)
