I currently have a 3 yr old Dell laptop that has been ok, no real problems with it.

What would you guys recommend for a new laptop, under $1500, some gaming?

Alienware is just too high, Dell components just seemed too blah.
 
I'm not sure if IBM offers any "gaming" cards, however. You may be better off with a Dell such as the Inspiron 9300 (if you like 17" screens) or one of their smaller models if you want more portability. I admit, IBM makes some great laptops, but not for gaming, they are geared more toward business.
 
Does size/weight matter?
If not, you can get a dell awesomely configured dell 9300 for that price with a coupon floating all over the place in the hot deals fourm.
