Best "recode" format?

I am using "My Video Converter" to reformat VOB/VTS files so I can upload to Rapidshare for forums. I am being given several options for the conversion, including ASF AVI VCD SVCD MPEG WMV etc. Out of these choices, which is the ABSOLUTE best format? If I choose AVI, then I am given 2 more choices for the codec (msmpeg 4v2 OR XVID) which of these is the best?
