I've slowly been building a surround sound system and just bought the last of my speakers today with my Pinnacle P5.5 center channel, what a monster(31"x11"x11", 47 lbs). I have two pairs of the P5.2 bookshelfs, and the smaller P5.3 center for the rear. I was thinking something like an Onkyo receiver from ecost.com, but wanted to get some suggestions on what I should be looking for. I'm not that savvy at things like this and know there a lot of audiophiles in here. Oh, the room I'm installing this in is only 12'x20', but I would like something that I can adapt to a larger room in the future.

Getting a refurb Onkyo would be a good bet I think.

A refurb unit from HK, Denon, etc. would get you a lot for your money too.

I was able to get a Pioneer 1014 floor model for under $300 for myself and I'm quite happy with it.

Head over to AVSforum or hometheaterforum if you want some more suggestions.

Not sure what the most recent version is, but I have an Onkyo TX-SR501, which is the same reciever as what comes with their 6xx or 7xx series HTIBs. works beautifully. Now I just need the rest of the speakers for a full surround setup :p

I have an older yamaha that has held up very well and still goes strong. You could probably find a pretty good used/refurbed yamaha for that price.

Its the same as the 503 now....

You can get a Refurb 602 onkyo with 1 yr warranty for 250$ + shipping at www.jr.com

I think that ubid has the Onkyo 503 for $150 and free shipping refurbished with warranty.

There was a thread about these amps called 'Krell Killers'. It really is unbelievable how good those receivers are (when using only the digital inputs) (edit: thread in avsforums I mean)

^ factory refurb Onkyo 602 is a great choice.

Hot Deals had a Pioneer closeout for $200 from Tweeters that is also a good choice, try Advanced Searcg if you want to find it.
