My olympus digital cam goes through 4 AA batteries every 50 pictures or so. It gets quite expensive so I'm wondering for xmas about getting a charger and then maybe 8-12 batteries so I can save myself costs long-term. The problem is, there are ni-cad rechargable, alkaline rechargable, etc. Which kind of recharable batteries works better for a high-drain device like a digital cam?

I have an Olympus D-460zoom, so I know just what you are talking about. I went out to radio Shack and got a kit with a charger and 4 NiMh batts for like 22 bucks. Typically they last me between 300 and 400 shots before I need a recharge. Not too bad. All in all I am very pleased. In fact, these batteries (I got 2 more packs of batteries) have ow replaced all my AA needs. Mp3 player, portable cd, you name it, I use them for everything. Love em.

I use Engergizer Accu NiMH and I seem to get pretty good life out of my Olympus 360L

I use the Maha and the Powerex in my Olympus C-2100, game boys, dvd player, etc. I like them a lot and this site has given me really good service and prices.

if you want longer battery life, I have found that using a higher jpeg compress makes it last longer. example, using the highest quality setting will drain your camera like mad...

I have a olympus 3030z camera and I allways have two sets of rechargables with me, last long enough. Last summer at cebit, I went through 1 and 1/2 sets at most during the day with the camera on most of the time (not the lcd though).

I have two types, 4 of each type.
One is VARTA Photo Accu Rechargable and the other is Olympus Camedia NI-MH.

Rechargable batteries and a charger was the first thing I bought when I got my camera.
