hi all,

2 questions.

1. what does the cas3 , cas2 2-2-2 thing stand for in all the system specs i see listed on this forum?

2.what's the best/most popular brand of ram to use if you are building an overclocked system?

i've seen suggestions of mushkin, micron, and hyundai gold. but these are fairly expensive. the micron is probably the best priced one at apprx $105, whereas the cheap generic pc133 ones go for about $80 shipped now.

what type of ram do you use and how fast are you running your system?

If u want to get fairly high bus speeds just pay the xtra cash for the good RAM...

Go into BIOS find the section where u change the CAS (column adress strobe) for your RAM... change it around from 2 to 3, do some benchmarks and you'll know why it's important to have GOOD RAM, that can withstand lowest timings @ the highest speeds...

BTW. best ram for an overclocker is HSDRAM (I guess Mushkin) It does 150/CAS 2...

And a cheap stick of RAM will barely do 133/CAS3 stable

If you dont want headaches and want to overclock get good ram. Period!
If you want to be cheap dont overclock as it will cause problems in most!! cases but not all.
Athlons are different from pentiums in that you are overclockin by pure clock with the thunderbirds and with p3's you have to overclock the fsb. When you overclock the front side bus everything in your system basically ends up bein overclocked including your ram so you need good stuff that can handle higher bus speeds.
With thunderbirds the fsb isnt really important as most of the motherboards for kt 133 chipsets dont allow overclocking the fsb over 110. But thunderbirds and regular athlons are all picky about ram so you need good ram either way!
But if yer runnin p3 it is mucho importante!
