Best RAM for a Dell 700m?

I'm looking into upgrading my memory in my 700m. I am thinking about getting some Corsair valueselect DDR400 Sodimms but I don't know if this will really help out the performance or not. I originally bought a stick of 512mb at ddr266 a while back, thinking to upgrade the 256mb it came with shortly thereafter. However, as the pricing has been cut almost in half, and the price disparity between ddr266 and ddr400 is only a few dollars, I would prefer to get the faster ram. Would this benefit the speed of the 700m in any appreciable way? Advice will be greatly appreciated.

DDR400 will not help regardless. If you already have DDR 266 in there and don't want to trash it, just get more DDR 266. I believe the chipset in the 700M supports DDR 333, so that would be the fastest performance you can get. But if you have DDR 266 the DDR 333 will run @ 266 speed.

Come to think of it, just get DDR333 'cuz its so cheap anyway. That way if you want to ugprade more later you can trash your DDR266 and have all DDR333

P.S. NewEgg has the best prices on DDR333 SODIMM's right now; $45 for 512MB & $109 for 1GB

I got a good deal on 1 GIG sodimms and I load this 700m with 2 gigs, and it is noticeably faster on load up. Besides that I can't tell. Oh, yea I run 2 games of Half Life 2 on it now with 65FPS.

Just kidding. It is a bit faster on load up.

Don't know where I got 266, I meant 333. Doh! I remember now reading that 333 is max supported! Please forgive me. I am functioning (if u can call it that) on only a few hours of sleep. Freaking imsomnia. Thanks for your replies. I think I am gonna just bite the bullet and get another 512 of 333.

My 700M will be delivered probably Tuesday or Wednesday. The deal that I got with 45% off included 512MB of RAM. The total came out to $1,278.01 shipped with the 1.8GHz Pentium M, 512MB of RAM and the DVD Burner and 60GB HD. The Dell 3 Yr. Support came with the deal also. Does that sound like a decent deal? I plan on getting 1GB all together and this thread helped out alot. I was also pondering about whether I would get any beneficial performance out of DDR400. I guess not.

Not a bad deal. My 700m came with 256MB and I added a 512MB stick of Kingmax DDR333 from Newegg. No (memory) problems in the 2 1/2 months I've had it.

just complain to dell about something and they give you coupons lol

I got a $75 coupon from complaining my laptop was taking too long to ship and used it to buy a 512 stick of ram off their site.. end cost $1.81
