Best ram for $120

Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit (2x 1GB) rated at 2.2v 4-4-4-12 $109 with a $40 rebate. Best deal around. Guaranteed Micron D9GMH IC
Looks like a great deal. But what's the difference between this Ballistix and the G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231065 @ $150?? Trying to decide between the 2 - I'd like 2x1gb plus 1x512mb to get 3gb on a Gigabyte DS3R or DS3P and Q6600 for a moderate overclock.

The G.Skill uses the same IC, but because Crucial is like an OEM of micron they can charge less for their memory.

That's very good to know - thanks.

So, if I'm running XP Pro / Q6600 / Gigabyte DS3P / GeForce Ultra5700, it's more cost-effective now to buy 2 of the 2gb kits rather than 2 x 1gb plus 2 x 512MB (2 x $41). Not to get too off topic, but will XP be able to benefit at all from the 4th gb? Certainly, I'm future-proofing for the time when I upgrade to Vista but that's not planned for soon.

Well, you could buy whatever you wanted. XP won't benefit at all from much over 3GB. And you won't be able to access it.

I'm up in Canada so Newegg isn't a viable option.

I can get OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit
for $92 with rebate vs $155 for the Crucial Ballistix. Is it as good as the Crucial? I'll be using it on a P5K premium with a q6600 o/c to about 3ghz.

thx

Gskill kicks Ass! but stay away from OCZ! you want some proof read my thread i just posted on 9-16-07 titles "proof OCZ is not all that". so as far as OCZ platinum XTC REV2 are concerned........to hell with them! i have also used crucial with great success!
