I've got a 900 running at 1 ghz, problem is, the FOP 38 is much much too loud. I need something that cools well thats quiet, any suggestions? and where can I buy it? Thanks all.

Taisol 733092 w/60mm Panaflo
The stock delta is moderately quiet but the above setup is as silent as it gets.
Phamcomputer's 6035w/60 Adda is close behind.

ArcticCooler if you can find one! =) It's nice to be in industry! The redesigned SocketA clips will be released in March along with the P4-compatible version.

Poor americans - no access to the superior NOISECONTROL SILVERADO 50 cooler! This cooler cools you t-bird 900@1100 to 36c! However the great thing about it is that it is soooooooo quiet (never over 20 db).

If I were an american - and in need of a cooler - I'd go ahead and order it directly from Germany right now!

Don't come here bragging about socket A temps. The measurements are so darn inaccruate that unless your ambient tmep is around 10C, there is no way you have a core temp of 36C(that is, if that heatsink as good as fop38).

Oh, i'm sorry. The specs were wrong. the quiet version is .63C/W, the standard is .5C/W and the turbo is .45C/W.

for a t-bird 1.1ghz at 1.8V, you would see a core temp of 39C, 32C, and 29C over ambient case temp. I hardly characterize the quiet one as one with good performance, or the standard one. The turbo is interesting, but a taisol cek734 will do just as well.

Silverado 50 (using 10V or 12V) is way better than FOP38 - both in performance and in sound level ]~;20db].

It is combined of a compound of 50g silver and two large coolers (running at 1800rpm)... Sadly it costs about 500 dKR meaning 125 DM meaning 50 USD...

it does not outperform an FOP, it is quieter, but the manufacturer rated C/W is .61. THe FOP is tested at .37/.36C/W.

Also, 50G of material is very, very little.

Honestly man... If you once had this cooler, you'll never even think of FOP38 again!

>>Also, 50G of material is very, very little!<<

Perhaps, but it is silver; the best heat conductive material for coolers.

>>It does not outperform an FOP.<<

No, but the differince is about 1c or 2c, så saying that is it far behind would be unfair!

Okay, look at the manufacturer ratings on the two heatsinks. .37C/W for the FOP, .61C/W for the Silverado.

Because of screwed up SOcket A temp measurement, temp differences aren't properly shown. you can see my sig for more info.

For an 1100mhz chip, producing roughly 64W of heat, the CORE temp difference between the two would be 15C. There's a possibility that the rating for the silverado is high, but I don't understand why the manufacturer would advertise a higher C/W than it really is.

Now this is CORE TEMP difference. Not measured difference, since socket A boards can't really measure temp changes very well. Almost always compress differences.
