I was looking up Taiyo Yuden on newegg and there are absolutely none in stock.

Is this still the most preferred/best quality, and if so, where's the best place to buy them where one can be sure they aren't counterfeits?

Tyg02 is still considered the best, afaik. Supermediastore.com or rima.com sells genuine TY.

I've bought from rima.com in the past without any problems, though it's been a couple of years since my last order.

I prefer not to branch out to buying from too many different businesses online. So I buy what I think are the next-best discs from Newegg: Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+Rs.

I've had great luck with the Verbatim Azo. I don't know if they're the best, but they work great for me!

I recall reading something about Verbatim changing their dye formula a few years back, and causing incompatibility with burners. I think that there is something to that. I had an older XP-era laptop, with a DVD burner (one of the first "budget" laptops that was bought when they first started to come with DVD burners). Anyways, it burns TDK discs just fine, but has major issues with Verbatim discs, the same discs that work just fine in my modern desktop systems with DVD burners.

So Verbatims may not work in older burners. In newer burns though, they work just great.

I still have stocks of Verbatim MIT (Made in Taiwan, considered to be better than Made in UAE or Made in India). Hard to find Made in Japan or Made in Singapore (Verbatim's main factory).

I think I do have some Verbatim DVD+R DL discs made in Singapore though.

Still have some RICOHJPN 4x DVD blanks too. I've used plenty of those, you used to be able to find them at CompUSA stores, in their house-brand spindles. (Had to look for Made in Taiwan on label.)
