DVD BURNERs

What is the best 16X DUAL LAYER on the market?

$ is not an object but quality is the objective.

OK so what is the difference between the PIONEER and THE NEC?

Is one better than the other? DOes one come with better packaged software?

the nec is reliable, but the pioneer is better if you want to burn crazy amounts of cds (price reflects this)

I take it the PIONEER can also burn CD's as well as the DVD's.

Yes, I plan on doing a lot of burning.

Yeah the NEC is a great burner. You should be able to get one for around $70. If you use the firmware that removes the rip-lock that thing screams through dvd's.

I never read anything about a rip lock on the nec 3500. I have one comming for x-mas so this is imporant to me. What firmwear removes the rip lock if it is there?

are the pioneer a08xl and the 108 different burners because the specs look the same, except on newegg the 108 is oem and the a08xl is retail.

No problem, it was good reading. THat drive screams with the hacked firmware for burning single layer dvd's.

Where can I read about flashing the firmwear on these drives as I have never updated the firmwear on and optical drives?

Don't have one, since I bought my Plextor 712A single layer burner about a month too early, but the BenQ DW1620 has been getting rave reviews, and it's pretty darn cheap. You can get it for between $50 and $60 before shipping and after rebate depending on if you want an OEM or retail drive from Tigerdirect. Buy.com has it for $89 and free shipping.

My vote goes to the Hitachi manufactured I/O Data ABH16ABK.

A similar LG manufactured model, sans special alloy case, is available in North America as the H-LG GSA-4163.

Use the one that uses the Windows flasher. Just click on it and it is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you don't have any burning apps running. 2.18 is the newest one.
