Best quality 22-24" LCD screen?

Looking for a new screen. Over the past 10 years I've been using various 17" flat CRTs all running at 1024x768 and I've decided it's time for something larger and preferably in widescreen format. (Sony, why did you discontinue the Trinitron?!) Anyway, what's the best quality 22-24" widescreen panel at the moment? I saw the HP W2207h in stores and was VERY impressed by the picture quality - better looking than almost any other 22" screen I've seen. Picture quality is something that is extremely important to me and the reason I've stuck with CRT so long. When I got home, I did a bit more research and learned something completely new to me - that there are different types of LCD panels. (yes, I've been under a rock. Over the past few years I have *completely* ignored LCDs so I am learning as I go). Anyhow, to my great surprise, I discovered the HP screen uses the worst kind of technology available, called TN. Apparantly, S-IPS is the best, so I want one of these kinds of screens if possible. I really can't imagine anything looking better than this screen though. So, what is the best 22" screen out there? I may even splash out for a 24" if it offers better image quality.

All 22" LCD except for two have TN panels..... Most people want SIPS but cant afford them (very expensive). The w2207H really isnt that great looking soon as you bring it home. It looks great in the stores because the bright light hides some of its visual defects (bad backlight bleeding and very blue tint).

The best 22" TN out there is probably either the Viewsonic VX2255WMB or the Samsung 2253BW both can be had for under $350. For the 24" I personally believe its to big for a TN panel, but if you must look at the Samsung 245BW, it can be had for about $400 at Sams or Costco.

From there you go dramatically up in price to get much better quality. Typically double the cost or more.

Interesting. Well if that's the case, then what screen are you using? And others?

since i use my machine for some photo retouching work on my shots, but i wanted a 24" for the productivity benefits it gives with screen workspace - but i couldnt live with a TN panel. i got an s-pva panel since it was the best compromise of size that i wanted, 24", plus better color reproduction and viewing angles than TN.

if money was no object, i would have gotten an S-IPS NEC panel but would have had to spend 1K not $400.

Here in Australia the lowest price I can find on the w2207h is $529. I would be willing to spend say, several hundred more than this if it means getting a better quality screen. I simply don't understand what's so bad about the HP, though. Yes, the bright lights in the showroom may have made it look a bit better than in reality, but I was still very impressed. What about a Dell 2007WFP ultrasharp - there's one up on eBay at the moment (it's a small country :)
