Hi all,

I currently have a spare PC that has all working parts except a motherboard. It currently has Q6600 CPU/6GB RAM/AMD 5800 series videocard and I wanted to look into a replacement motherboard. I don't plan on overclocking, but would like some flexibility on doing Crossfire/SLI in the future. It's not a must have or a deal breaker feature, just a plus. I was looking at the Asus P5Q Pro motherboard as it had over 900 reviews on Newegg at 4 stars, but was wondering if there's anything better. I'd prefer a Asus motherboard, but that isn't set in stone. Thank you for any help!

Just get any motherboard that isn't HP, Dell, or an offbrand. A motherboard does almost nothing to improve performance.

That is a good board, the Asus Maximus LGA 775 ones are good too.

If not Asus, then:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P

Foxconn Mars was pretty good too and had active northbridge cooling.

I'm running the P5Q board... It has been rock stable for years with a Q6600.

I just recently turned it in to a file server...

P5B Deluxe..because I have one for sale :whiste:
Seriously though..
There's some p5e3s on ebay..
p5q3 Deluxe is one of my favorite...any p5q3
Maximus Extreme.
Rampage Extreme (chances are you won't want to pay for those)
x38T-dq6,x48T-dq6
p5k3 would be OK, too.
That's some of the best ones :)

PS:I'm not even going to mention the one I'm out to get ..I need backups

you probably want the p45 chipset.

the gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P or asus p5q deluxe

I had the Gigabyte and it was a solid board. Took my Q6600 to 3.6 Ghz. It was quite the heater (the CPU), but very good performance and reliability.

I had an Intel DP45SG. It's still in my closet, lol.

It supported Crossfire, but not SLI, and DDR3. Was a nice board. Solid, decent overclocking.

If you can still find one, gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P.
Mine has been rock solid for years. I'm still using it (paired with q9550)

If you love a feature rich board, the maximus 2 formula in my eyes is the king of the 775 boards.Loved that maximus 2 board and it was the best board i have ever owned to this date and by far the coolest looking thing i had ever had placed in a tower.

Another choice is the good old Abit ip35 pro or pick up a gigabyte p45 like others suggested but personally any of those are a great choice.

my GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P had my Q6600 running rock solid @ 3.6ghz and bumped vcore to 1.4 for over 5 years.

Also had memory and video card overclocked. i sure did push the limits of the MB

dx48bt2 if your not overclocking...

Because it uses about the most standard parts in any install CD due to the board being the last original 775 intel board.

Its a moderate overclocker... but on stock settings its a solid performer with enterprise class engineering...

i was actually looking at that board because they are cheap right now.
my cousin is requiring a new board soon due to most of his usb ports being dead.
was considering it an repair part... did u have any problems with it?

I know its not bonetrail2, but was it a stable platform?

Very stable. Picky about RAM though.

(DRAM chip density, lot of newer DDR3 is incompatible.)
