I want something that is stable, provides plenty of power, and is quiet. I don't need to spent $100 dollars, but I don't want to spend more. Right now I'm looking at the Antec True Power 550 watt. Any other suggestions?

I would recomend the True Control 550. It is only $6 more and gives you full control of the voltages. If I would spend that much this is the only one I would consider.

I saw that, apparently the "core" is pretty much the same as the True Power. If I end up buying a psu (not sure If I'm going to), I might get that. I suppose it wouldn't make much sense not to, but I don't know that I would ever use the voltage controls.

Zalman 400w. One of the best steps towards silencing my computer I ever made.

I realize wattage isn't everything when it comes to psu choice, but the reason I want to get a new one is that my current unit might not be cutting it. I don't think I want to go from a 350 watt fortron to a 400 watt zalman, just to end up with the same problems.

I traded my "true 480" for the silentX 400 and it dominates accross all rails and is silent. Read the review and browse around the forums there. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=3365&highlight=silenx

Unless you're running a lot of stuff, 400w should be plenty.

Dude get the Thermaltake Silent Purepower its like 5 more bucks and its an awesome PSU! Also check out the Purepower 480 if you decide you don't need ~ 550 watts!

I already know I don't need 550 watts. I'm just tired of screwing around with power supplies and I don't want to have to buy another one for a long time. I've gone cheap twice- never again.

Thermaltake powersupplies are notoriously noisy... don't get them.

I dont know where you pulled that out from. I agree with Schadenfroh and axemanxt40.... Both of my Thermaltake PSU's are top quality and VERY quiet.

This article may be a bit old but according to that, Thermaltake was the quietest... beating the Zalman albeit on a very small (possibly insignificant) margin.

Quite simply, Thermaltake hasn't made the cut at SilentPCReview to be put on the recommended list. I couldn't imagine getting a PS that wasn't on their list. A quick search of their forums will tell you that many people dislike Thermaltake power supplies.

Well based upon my experience, I cant not recommend Thermaltake Power Supplies. I dont think its audible over my 2x80 and 1x92 Panaflo L1A's but I might take a closer listen when Im finished working.

I would get that or the 400W Seasonic Super Silencer. Here's a review at SPCR. Is very quiet, efficient, has super tight voltage regulation and plenty power on the 12V rail.

acually the PSU list needs to be updated there. I have a forton 350 and a coolMAX 400. I would of got the 300 or 350 but they were out of stock when i was ordering at newegg.

anyway i would say the coolmax is >> quieter then my forton. and the 400W version was cheaper the the forton350.

dont get me wrong, the forton is quiet, but near it i can hear a hum and from around one foot i can hear clicking. The coolmax has no hum and only from right next to it i can hear clicking from the lowest setting.
