Best program to use for taking control of a computer on a network?

What is the best program that will allow you to take control of a computer on a network? Something similar to PC Anywhere, but over networks.

btw: I've tried the desktop sharing builtin to MS Netmeeting and it works pretty good, but you have to manually setup each pc everytime you want to use it.

Have you tried vnc? It only requires a simple install on the server (computer-illiterate college students can do it) with minimal setup and can be accessed via client or java-supporting web browser. With a client connected, it takes about 7 megs of ram on my NT4:SP6a machine with 128megs of ram. The server can be started automatically on boot (as an app, not a service...just drop it into the startup folder...though I believe there is a way to start it as a service, so that you can remotely reboot a machine). Also, there are clients and servers available for all major operating systems (wins and *nixes). As far as security, the servers are protected by simple password and if "Accept Socket Connections" is selected, an odd port number can be used to connect to the server (server:socketnumber in the standalone client, http://server:580servernumber through a browser).

If you already have PCAnywhere, why not use it?
Is there a problem with PCA on your network, cause I've used it on several comps across the world from our headoffice.

Yeah, PCAnywhere works great over a network, so does VNC. VNC also has a Macintosh version besides Win/*nix/others.

Side note, I do prefer VNC myself, due to the excellent platform support, and the fact that its free, and very small.

I use PCAnywhere myself, over TCP/IP. Very simple. What's the problem on your network using it?

Heh, I'm DUMB!!! hehehe, I didn't look far enough into PC Anywhere to find the Network connection. Thanks for giving the ol brain a work out!

btw: I tried out VNC and it seems to work just as well as PCA. That is kinda freeware I like to see!

I use Terminal Services to connect to my Win2k server. It makes administration so much easier and I can even use it over the net with the activex client.
