Best processor on a budget?

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Retail (Socket 939)

64-bit prowess in a budget system is a good sign for the future. Wrapping it around with dual channel memory and the Athlon 64's integrated memory controller never hurt, either. While Sempron is going to catch up with socket 939 64-bit parts at some point, the surprisingly affordable price of the Athlon64 3000+ on the Revision E "Venice" core makes it the choice. Being highly overclockable is a plus for the overclockers out there.

Cost: US$131.90 (11/20/2005)
