Best processor for HD video editing i5 or i7?

What are your other goals? A quad core i7 would be best for video work IF the program can take advantage of the extra cores (do your research first); otherwise, a higher-clocked dual core (i5) would be best. However, if you do get a quad core, expect battery life to be quite a bit worse.

My other goals are 3d animation...working in softwares like 3ds max,maya etc.So i will be using that for Rendering.
i am planning to purchase dell xps 15 with i7..is it a good choice?
