Best Printer on the Market?

I'm looking for a good printer out on the market. The funny part about buying an inkjet printer is that sometimes the print cartridges and printer end up being the same price. Why not just buy a new printer? Anyways I'm just looking to buy a decent, compatible inkjet printer with Windows XP and 2000. Also a printer that doesn't have cartridges that cost a lot.

Thanks

Canon S820.

Incredible photos. Cartridges are cheap because they don't require you to change the head as well.

... and because unlike everyone else, Canon has every single ink color in an individual ink cartridge. Their low end printers S100 to S300 are the exception, but from midrange 4-color S400 upward they all have it. The S8xx series are six-color, and have a print head with more than 1000 jets for amazing speed even in best quality.

Well, I am happy with my HP960 (added on a duplexer). Nice photos and text is fast and crisp. No issues with printer quality.

The newer HP's have better output for photos (six color) but are more expensive per page.
I hear the Canon's have better photo output and have a cheaper per page cost.

If you do get a HP, make sure you intend to refill. That makes the cost per page much cheaper. Print heads on the cartridge itself also insures
against the Epson/Canon clogged head ordeal. Keep in mind that the HP900 series cartridges may be expensive but they last a long time also.

I have an HP930c got for free from e stamps..gotta love that deal.... and bought a duplexer love the double sided printing...

The last canon I had was a 600..it was nice and the individaul ink tanks were great but the head did clog and print quality went down...the print was too expensive to replace...my next printer was a lexmark Z51 simply the best color output I had seen and black print was near laser quality...the HP 930 was newer but quality was a bit off from the lexmark...I have not gotten a new printer in 2 yrs(now that is a long time)

I really like the HP quality...the ink cartridges work great...with no banding..even a new cartridge for my lexmark z51 did this ..was a hassle getting a replacement ..never had this problem with the HP cartridges and the the replacements have lasted a long time.....

So I would consider an HP printer if the price is right..may not have the best output but they print very reliable in my experience and do give very nice quality..as I said my 2 yr old HP930 still works great and looks very good though I better a newer one would be much nicer..but the the cost for the printer itself maybe too high

Is the head replaceable as well?

Yes they are. Unlike the mother of all single ink desktop printers, the BJC-600 series that neilh obviously had, the new ones have an easily replaced head. The BJC-600 had four separate, permanent heads (that each were the same as on the BJC-300 btw).

Flick the large grey lever and out comes the entire unit. Handy for service, never had to replace one so far anyway.

From a former Epson and HP printer user, I now use and recommend the Canon S900.

Stunning photo printing. Borderless photo printing up to the full 8,1/2 by 11 inch page.

6 individual ink cartridges that cost about $10 apiece.

Yes, print head is replaceable.

The Canon S900 looks REALLY nice, but does Canon offer a printer like the S900 with the great lower-res, black text ppm of the S750?
