I currently have a lexmark Z65 that prints well and fast, but it is costing me a fortune in ink. I heard Epson has the cheapest ink, but I am looking for something to print text and web pages, but no photos. The biggest concern is ink cost. Anyone know what would be best?

Your bet bet is a Canon inkjet the uses BCI-3 and or BCI-6 cartridges. They are clear and larger than the ones the cheaper Canon printers use. That would be the i560, i860 or the new replacements for them, the 3000 and 4000. You can probably catch a i560 and i860 on sale right now if you act fast. Carts for these can be had for under $2. They also refill easily.

check monsterinkjets.com
megatoners.com
tylermartin. com for the better "usa brand" generics.

Throw the lexmark in the trash when the ink runs out, same for an HP. Epson is OK but not as good as a Canon.

Own a Canon 560. Very low running costs and excellent outputs..

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I was about to buy an Epson from clearanced.com, but after reading this I will look into the 560.

I have a canon i350 the one that uses the single black and single color. The carts have a capacity of like 300 pages but the carts are like $3 a piece if you order through ink4art.com or abcink.com when they have a coupon or sale. So basically I can get 3000 pages of prints for $30 for black and white...

You could also consider a color laser printer since you don't intend to print photos and [AFAIK] they have the best "bang for the buck" when it comes to ink costs.

How do costs compare with a strictly B&W laser? I have a 10 year old HP4M, however color seems cool. For me, however, photo printing would be a nice option, or would I want a dedicated photo printer for that? I don't mean to hijack the thread, so sorry this post is a little OT.

Canon IP3000 and IP4000 are the new printers from Canon that replace the older i560 and i860. The print quality is just superb and the ink is dirt cheap.

These appear to be "photo" printers. Very interesting.

I find it amazing that a color printer has cheaper ink than a b&w one... what's the logic in that?

Wouldn't know, probably depends on specs when compared and I'd opt for a seperate photo printer.
