Is B/W only ok?
If Yes, then get one of those laser printers that cost around 100 after rebate/coupon. Browse Hot Deals more often and those deal will come up once in a while

A color inkjet known as the CANON i560. $99 at Sams, Costco or Bestbuy (after ebate)

Do no buy an Epson, Lexmark or HP...

The key is in the printing costs (cartridges), Canon cartridges are esaily refillable or you can get them as low as $1.50 at monsterinkjets.com, megatoners or tylermartin.com
On top of that the Canons are superb with photos.

I don't think you have any clue what you're talking about.. HP is expensive for their consumables but Epson isn't.

Ink carts for Epson C82 is like less than 2 bucks for generics. More like 1.50ish.

Right...I have ten inkjet printers...I do everything from use generics to refilling to runnng continuous feed. I've been through nemerous HPs and Epsons. Now I only use Canons.
True, you can use generics with Epsons but I had problems with head clogging. Not with the new Canons. The Canons I use have clear cartridges. Easy to tell your ink levels. They are easy to fill too and no chipsetters are necessary like on some Epsons.
We also tried continuous feed on Epsons but the heads again tended to clog.

If I had to make a second choice I say Epson but the clear cut winner for running cheap is the Canon.

I suggest you run a Anandtech advanced search for PRINTERS and CANON and see what other people have to say before calling us all clueless. Most people here have learned that Canon Inkjets are the best for various reasons.

Office depot has the Samsung ML 1710 laser printer for 99 bucks this week. The Minolta 1250 Laser printer is regularly under 100 dollars as well

C82. I got mine for $99 with a $40 rebate. Ink = cheap and water resistant as well.

Does that apply for ALL Epson color inkjets or only some?

I heard the Epson C84 for $30 uses chips in their inkjet cartridges which don't allow you to use generics and requires frequent cleaning?

I'm also considered about LONG TERM costs (inkjet cartridges) and dunno if we should buy Canon, HP or Epson.

Mine is a C82, and it uses the chips. I just ordered my first batch of generic ink form megatoners, and should be here in 2-3 days. If you can wait I can tell ya how they work. Just PM me in a few days and remind me :p

The carts were $2.99 each for color, $3.99 for black. Retail is 11.99 for each color and 32.99 for black. I printed out over 150 pages at 95% coverage ( 8.5 x 11) before I ran out of a color (custom dvd inserts). The black lasted another 25ish pages before running out. even retail, that is pretty cheap coverage wize. That is over 100 sq feet of paper, not counting the ream of black text I printed. :)

My Lexmark z23 printed out less than 100 pages of black text on 8.5 x 11 before running out of the cartrage that came with the printer, and a little less than 200 for a replacement black cartridge. That is horrible.

Generics for the Canons are fine. Get ISO certified if you want the better generics...although I've had good luck with the cheapest generics.

As for photos, you'll likly get better photos with genuine Canon cartridges because Canon has patented the magenta.

I've also refilled a canon generic cartridge over 100 times.
