My boss wants me to put together a pc for him because is current pc (a Compaq) is dying. I usually build all of my pc's but I really don't want to be responsible for everything that may go wrong so I'm looking for a pre-assembled pc. I've used Micron and dell in the past but its been awhile.

Any recommendations?

He should be fine with Dell. Make sure to get the extended warranty so he doesn't bug you for support. :D

Dell is the best OEM for desktops, IMO.

If price is of minimal concern, I'd highly recommend the Precision 390 Workstation. Standard 3yr On-site, NBD warranty. It's a rock-solid desktop, very well-designed, and he'll get better support with it over a Dimension/XPS desktop.

Either a Dell or an HP should work fine for your needs.

Dell with extended service plan with onsite or next day delivery and get it for 3 years, and see if you can get it for longer if you boss is a PITA.
