<FONT face=Arial size=2>about three months ago, Leon was in Springfield, Mo visiting a relative. i was at Fox and Hound (a sports bar) watching the MNF game. Leon was at the table behind me. after a few drinks, i went up to him and said "Hey champ, just wanted to let you know you're the only guy other than me to make my mom cry." he said "whythjsklhsdf?" i took this to mean "what?" see, my mom was a huge Ali fan, and i remember when Leon beat him, my mom cried. so, i bought him a beer while he laughed. about three hours later (and at least 15 beers for him) he said "saksdfgkfafdg." his buddy said "hey, we're going to my house, wanna go play pool?" so me, Big Nasty ( or ole Skrimpy, which are the two nicknames of my buddy Brad) and Jake Mac-attack (another buddy), went. next thing i know, it's 6:30 in the morning, we're drinking scotch out of a coffee cup, and i call my Dad. "hey, what are you doing," he said. "playing dirty craps with Leon Spinks," i said, then gave Leon the phone. after mumbling unintelligibly for a minute, he asked to talk to my mom. when she got on, he said (and these were maybe the first words he'd said all night that didn't need a UN interpreter from ghetto St. Louis to English) "I'm sorry i hurt your hero." i thought i was gonna cry.
so, to sum it up, even though the shots to the head obviously affected him, and now he's broke as joke, he seemed to be a good guy. one more thing. if you go see him, please call him "Champ." his face will light up like you can't believe. help someone remember when they were the baddest man on the planet. i promise you'll smile!
