Best Portable mp3 Player

I need a small, lightweight portable mp3 player for use while running. I am looking at 128mb models.

What are your personal preferences when it comes to these. I did see one that was interesting at mwave.com🙁$92)
Mwave 128mb Player

Let me know what you think.

ooohhh i second this...but somethin small that i can wear....like at the gym...somethin a lil bigger than a pack of gum would be perfect

Definately the NIKE psa128, tool. :Q

I have it and it works great for running.. has an arm band that comes w/ it and all. Also includes rechargable battery and charger, pc-hookup (obviously), and software.

link it?

I've seen the Nike, but I remember it being real expensive for what you get. I don't particularly feel like paying for a name.

The Creative Muvo seems small and durable.

Other opinions? This thing is mostly for use at the gym or on the road running so no suggestions of portable hard drive based stuff, that is just too big and clunky and I don't need all that space or weight.

Creative Labs MuVo 🙂

I love mine. No software needed and it also stores files (not just an MP3 player) 🙂

Very cool and VERY small--also the earbuds that come with it are SO GOOD! Not kiddin'--those things pump

Gotta pay to play.

edit: Jason, Rubens is listening to Dancing Queen right now. :Q

If you want the BEST......

It's the Cendyne Gruvstick 128mb
How can you beat something that has an optional FM broadcast mode
It's beyond cool.........it's ubercool 😛

Yeah pay to play, sounds like a wierd Rubens thing.

On a side note do you have the Nike player? Do you feel like a total hoser when you wear it on your arm? Oh yeah, what did you pay for yours if you have one?

Jason

I'm liking the MuVo so far. As I already like Creative and it looks like a well built unit and I kinda like the dual purpose file transfer/mp3 player thing too.

I'll consider the Nike if the Creative isnt' hardcore enough.

Jason

The Nike is totally overpriced, the Muvo is good though. Nice and small, only problem is it can't be upgraded with any standard flash. This IRiver is very nice, and has 256mb, but cost $199. The 128mb model here looks really neat and is only $99, but isn't a name brand.
Actually, I'd wait awhile to get one though, unless you really need one, because some new technology is becoming available that will totally revolutionize mp3 players.

STAY AWAY from the Cendyne Gruvstick 128mb !!! Save yourself the pain of using this thing. I returned mine after two weeks of frustration.

  • 1. Can't delete some files and then replace with new ones. You have to delete all, then add new songs.
  • 2. Must strip ID3 tags otherwise player will choke.
  • 3. Slow USB1.1 transfer rates.
  • 4. Annoying lag after you press a button for the player to do something.
  • 5. Possible to inadvertently turn player ON even when hold button is on.
  • 6. Will only play songs encoded with mp3 layer3. (All mp3 players should support MPEG1/2 - Layer 2/3 (MP3), all bit rates, and VBR.)

Try JETAUDIO CW200 Instead

OMG ipods rock!

FYI rumors are that Apple is revamping the ipod line up to 40gb! Anyway they should be dropping the 5gb version down the $200. Just wait a couple weeks it'll happen.

The iPod is too big for me. I am looking for very portable. If I wanted something for car trips an iPod would be considered.

Anyways I purchased the Creative Muvo 128mb and it should be here today. I will let you all know how it works out.

Thanks,
Jason

Nomad IIs aren't too humongous and can be cheap as hell if you dig for deals on them. Mine with 32meg onboard + 128meg card was about $100 total.

For really small, but more money the Bantam BA350 is hard to beat. Very tiny and durable.

"really tiny" = 3.0" x 2.0" x 0.66", 2.25 oz BTW.
