I want to build two mini ITX machines for HTPC and light gaming. I am talking NES/genesis to dolphin emulation, and some light windows gaming like borderlands 1 and 2.
My question is, what is the best wireless game controller for PC, compatibility wise? I really dislike the layout on the xbox controller. I would like something like a playstation DS3 controller. I think logitech makes a controller with the same layout, not sure if you guys have any comments on controllers.
Here is the challenge, particularly if we are talking windows or linux: I need to be able to have at least 2 players on the console session. Like if we play mario kart or something, there will be two players on one machine. Are there emulators that can do split screen like the native hardware? Can the PC versions of borderlands even do this (or, alternatively, do you think the steamOS version of borderlands would support splitscreen mplayer like the console versions?)
Let me know if there is a good reading resource for this kind of thing. It seems like 99% of retro gaming environments are for single player. For this to work for me, i need to be able to play whatever games in 2 player / split screen mode. has this even been done? or is this a gap steamOS is hoping to fill? I wouldn't mind steamOS as long as it satisfies the above requirements and it comes with some sort of app store with netflix, xbmc, etc. what do you guys think?
