What is the best Plasma for under $2000?

I was looking at 42 inches.

I want to console game and I have seen Plasmas for under $2,000 but not sure what to expect from them. I will be sitting like 4 feet from it next to my desk. I don't really want a LCD t.v.

hrmm, I'm not sure if you'll be able to find a plasma display for that price (and if you can, I'm not sure how good of quality they would be). You might wanna try looking for an LCD.
 
Good 480p plasmas at that price, but not 720p - 1080i.

Consider the Sony A10 series LCD RPTV 42", it is 720p and goes for as little as $1,500 (typically $1,800) + around $300 for a 5-year extended warranty.

Or a Samsung HLR-xx-67 720p DLP, 46"and 50" models go for under $2,000 if you shop around.

For all of these sets an extended warranty is a good idea since repair parts are very expensive (over $1,000 for a light engine) and this is somewhat bleeding edge tech, unlike 50-year-old tube TV tech.
